How to survive a zombie apocalypse

1.

Don’t be taken by surprise! As everything indicates that a zombie epidemic is inevitable in the near future, stay tuned for news and radio. Strange unexplained deaths? Police incidents involving bites or disfigured beings? Sign that the chaos has already begun

two.

Confirmed the outbreak, do not waste time. Before you hole up in a safe place, run to the supermarket and buy as much bottled water, canned food, batteries, flashlights, medicine and anything you can use for defense, like machetes, as you can. If you are of legal age, buy firearms

3.

The trend is for the epidemic to spread more quickly in urban centers, where there are more potential victims. It is best to escape to a secluded place, such as a house in the mountains or in the countryside. If you don’t have this option (or if it’s already too late), the best way is to protect yourself at home

4.

Once inside four walls, reinforce windows and barricade all doors. But preserve an observation point to keep an eye on the surroundings. Do not go out and do not let anyone in, even if it is a relative or acquaintance. Remember: anyone bitten by a zombie will become one!

In addition to a cool head, your main weapon is patience. Sooner or later, the outbreak comes to an end, either by the intervention of public security forces or by the limited longevity of the creatures. Ration the food, keep an eye on the news, find a way to occupy your time, and wait for the worst to pass.

6.

If, for whatever reason, you have to leave the haven, pay close attention to whether there are any signs that they are nearby. If you come across a zombie, remember that they are slow: your best option is always to run away. Look for open areas – as they attack in packs, it is difficult to corner them.

7.

The best way to dispatch the undead is to blow their brains out. But not everyone hits a shot like that! In case there are bullets left, aim first at the legs, to immobilize them, and then, deliver the fatal shot in the skull. Make sure the creature is no longer a danger

8.

Don’t you have a firearm? Better (they are noisy!). Always carry a machete or ax with you. You’ll have to get a little closer to decapitate them, but at least you’ll never run out of ammo.

The math is in their favor

Scientific study calculates humanity’s chance of surviving an attack by the living dead

Scientists from Carleton and Ottawa Universities, Canada, created a mathematical formula to calculate the progression of an epidemic of undead. The calculations are too complex to explain, but the consequences are frighteningly palpable. From the first infection, it would only take three hours for a city of 500,000 inhabitants to have more zombies than healthy people. “If the scale were to increase, the result would be doomsday: a zombie outbreak would cause the collapse of civilization, with all humans infected or dead”, they conclude, in a less than encouraging tone.
