Chico Bento – In real life, Chico bento was Dita’s brother. In the comics, he became his grandson. When he appeared, in 1961, he was a supporting character in the comic strips by Hiro and Zé da Roça, but he reversed the game and ended up becoming the protagonist
Grandma Dita – Chico Bento’s grandmother has the same name and characteristics as Maurício’s grandmother. Both are affectionate and good storytellers. It was by listening to her “stories” about her brother that Maurício raised Chico Bento.
Roll – In 1969, Márcio, Maurício’s brother, had a kind of hippie look, with long hair and a beard. It was the origin of Tina’s best friend look. The name comes from the “rolls” in which Márcio was always involved.
Scallion – Márcio’s childhood friend, Luiz changed the R for the L and, because of his spiky hair, was nicknamed Cebolinha by Maurício’s father. To this day he is called Cebola in Mogi das Cruzes (SP), where he still lives.
Smudge – Another boy from Márcio’s class. Like the character created in 1960, he wasn’t very hygienic. contrary to what happened with Cebolinha, the friendship with sujinho did not last – and Maurício does not remember his real name.
Bug – Márcio worked at Turma da Mônica studios for several years. He created Bugu as a self-portrait. That’s why, like every brother, he «peeves» Bidu (Mauritius’ alter ego). Hence the catchphrase “Hello, Mom!”
bidu – His first character, from 1959, was based on his childhood dog. At that time, Franjinha, owner of Bidu, also had characteristics of the comic artist
Tina – Mauricio’s colleague from high school ended up in comics in 1964. In her debut, she was a bit of a hippie and was in the same age group as Mônica. In the 1980s, it was reformulated and “aged”
Against – The ninth child has always been the family’s standout. He cheered against Brazil in the Cup, dressed in black… He became Do Contra. He is the brother of Nimbus in the comics and also appeared in 1994
nimbus – In another chronicle on his website, Maurício says that, as soon as Mauro learned to speak, he already asked if it was going to rain. The little boy also loved to see the weather forecast. Debuted in 1994
Marina – The seventh daughter drew on her talent for drawing. And she spent her childhood asking to become a character. She realized the dream in 1994 when she was 9 years old. In the comic book, she is the daughter of Mauricio himself.
Magali – It came shortly after the creation of Mônica. In one of his chronicles on the website monica.com.br, he says that, in childhood, his daughter actually drew a whole watermelon – and even today she is good with a fork
Monica – The second daughter had all the traits that would enshrine her in the comics: she was short, chubby, toothy and willful. It appeared in 1963 as a supporting character in Cebolinha, but soon became a star.
Maria Cebolinha – Maurício had four marriages and ten children. Her firstborn inspired Cebolinha’s younger sister. It was created in 1960, when Mariângela was also a baby.
Ze Lele – Chico’s twin brother in real life also had great “adventures” at the time when Mogi das Cruzes (SP) was pure countryside. In the comics, he became Zé Lelé, the countryman’s most naive partner.
