What is urine therapy?

It is a type of alternative therapy in which the person drinks or passes his own pee on the body to prevent or cure diseases and strengthen the body. Strange as it may seem, many people follow the treatment. Brazilian fighter Lyoto Machida, former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, for example, is one of the supporters. Despite being used for millennia by Egyptians, Chinese and Indians, there is still no scientific evidence that “pipitherapy” is really effective. But, if health is what matters, check out more details about this and other natural therapies below. Bitter syrup here is a chip!

Alternative treatments include everything from being “devoured” by maggots and leeches to ingesting someone else’s poo!

URINOTHERAPY

What it is – Ingesting your own pee for medicinal purposes. It may seem eschatological, but 90% of our urine is made of water and the remaining 10% of urea, nutrients and hormones not absorbed by the body.

What it is used for – Treatment of various ailments, such as allergies, autoimmune diseases, infections, burns and even cancer. The ideal is to drink the first urine of the day, which would have a high concentration of beneficial substances, such as cortisone. In World War II, for example, soldiers would pee on their wounds to speed up healing.

FECAL TRANSFUSION

What it is – Using donor poop to treat someone else’s bowel problems. Created by an Australian doctor, the disgusting therapy consists of applying alien feces to the diseased intestine through a tube introduced from the nose.

What it is used for – Treatment of pseudomembranous colitis, a disease caused by the bacteria Clostridium difficile. The action of the microorganism destroys tissues in the colon, one of the parts of the large intestine. According to some studies, the success rate is around 95%

Revenue:

1. About 30 g of donor poop are mixed with 50 ml of saline solution until a fetid but homogeneous liquid is formed

2. This mixture is filtered with a strainer to retain the solid parts that have not been diluted

3. With a syringe, the doctor injects about 25 ml of poop solution through a tube threaded through the patient’s nose and extending into the stomach.

4. The bacteria present in the fecal solution would help in the restoration of the intestinal flora and in the reconstitution of the affected intestine tissue

LARVATHERAPY

What it is – Use of larvae of the blowfly Lucilia sericata for “cleaning” wounds, as if it were biosurgery. The method is popular in some countries, such as Mexico, and there are even creations of these flies especially for the treatment.

What it is used for – Assisting in the treatment of wounds and skin ulcers in people who have difficulty healing, such as diabetics or patients who have developed bedsores (chronic wounds) from lying in bed for a long time

1. About 200 larvae, grown free of germs in the laboratory, are placed on the wound. The site is protected by a gauze and receives a bandage.

2. Inside, they feed exclusively on the wound’s necrotic skin. As these tissues no longer have nerve fibers, the patient does not feel any pain.

3. The larvae get fat by feeding on the dead skin, being changed every two to four days. The treatment lasts from two to six months and replaces the use of antibiotics.

APICUNCTURE

What it is – A treatment made with the venom of honey bees which, according to supporters, has anesthetic and anti-inflammatory action. In the most radical version, the patient is stung by the bees themselves. But there are less painful versions, in which the venom is collected and used to produce ointments or injectable solutions.

What it is used for – Treatment of pain in general, rheumatism, arthritis, skin infections, eye diseases and even cancer. None of this, however, is scientifically proven and there is no authorization from the Ministry of Health for the use of the substance as a medicine in the country.

HIRUDOTHERAPY

What it is – A therapy that uses leeches of the Hirudus medicinalis species, an aquatic worm related to earthworms that sucks the patient’s blood (see opposite). The treatment, which appeared thousands of years ago, has returned to fashion and is already adopted by clinics in the USA, Portugal and Israel.

What it is used for – Treatment of bruises resulting from plastic surgery and reimplantation (of fingers, ear, etc.) and to treat osteoarthritis, joint wear that causes pain and difficulty in movement

1. Two to seven leeches are placed on the region of the body that underwent reimplantation or plastic surgery and then begin to feed on the person’s blood

2nd. With suction, the blood circulates through the site and microscopic blood vessels that could not be reconnected during surgery are rebuilt

2b. In cases of osteoarthritis, the effect is different. By sucking blood, the leech releases analgesic and anti-inflammatory substances into the bloodstream.

OPHIDIAN MASSAGE

What it is – A massage on the back, neck and face performed by non-venomous snakes – which vary in size from 20 cm to up to 1 m – originating in the US states of California and Florida. The bizarre was invented by Ada Barak, the owner of a hotel in the city of Talmei Elazar, in northern Israel

What it is used for – The creator guarantees that the contact of snakes with the body has a relaxing effect, being able to relieve muscle pain and improve patient movement. That is, of course, if the person can stand having the damn things slide over them…

PEELING WITH FISH

What it is – A pedicure technique performed by Garra rufa fish at Yvonne Beauty Salon, in the US state of Virginia. Customers dip their feet in tanks with about a hundred fish, which measure a few centimeters and do not stop pinching their fingers

What it is used for – Removing cuticle, calluses and dead cells from fingers and toes. According to the owner of the salon, the bites also improve local circulation. It takes about 30 minutes, ending with a “traditional” pedicure. In Turkey, minnows are used to eat dead tissue from the feet of patients suffering from a skin disease called psoriasis.
