What is the clitoris? What is it for?

In its visible part, the clitoris is a little button at the top of the vagina, where the labia minora form a “V” (see infographic below). The function of this small organ is only one: to give pleasure. “Because of its thousands of nerve endings, the clitoris is the most sensitive part of the vagina to touch, contact and friction, and it can lead a woman to orgasm”, says gynecologist Carolina Teixeira de Carvalho, from the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp).

When a woman feels horny, neurotransmitters and hormones act on the Central Nervous System to provide excitement, which manifests itself throughout the body – heart rate and blood pressure increase, nipples become erect, vagina gains lubrication and the clitoris dilates, making become even more sensitive.

In practice, he undergoes a small erection: it increases from 0.5 to 2 centimeters. What do you mean erection? The clitoris is formed by erectile tissue, which has the ability to stretch when filled with blood. Yes, the same mechanism that happens with the penis when the man is excited.
