Wednesday, December 30th, 2015. All women, who are lovers of the classics of literature and cinema; soon we’ll be able to enjoy the third season of “Penny Dreadful” series. This shows the Victorian era through a parallel universe in which the scariest monsters are protagonists inspired by the gothic literature of the nineteenth century.
The story focuses on Vanessa Ives, masterfully personified by Eva Green; a woman with supernatural powers who fear their unthinkable reaches at the point of being requested by the beast of darkness, a fact that causes chaos and madness in a society of peaceful appearance.
The series possesses a group of main characters, Vanessa Ives is a fictional character, created by the writers; Ella it is the representation of a very powerful witch. The versatile and intense Eva Green, gives life to this tormented woman; a role which received a nomination for the main actress in Golden Globe. Another fictional character, but with a dramatic twist is Brona Croft / Lily, played by Billie Piper.; her history of her is complex and tragic, she has a relationship with Doctor Frankenstein.
Timothy Dalton is Sir Malcolm Murray, the father of Mina Murray and the incarnation of the eternal love of Count Dracula; characters from the works of Bram Stoker. Ethan Chandler, represented by Josh Hartnett, is a brave American outlaw; who is involved in the plans of Sir Malcolm and Miss Ives, to the point of making known his true nature werewolf.
Dr. Victor Frankenstein, characterized by Harry Treadaway, is the creator of the beast, personified by Rory Kinnear; the monster is cultured and represents the suffering of the romantic man in the nineteenth century. The story comes from “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley work. Dorian Grey, represented by Reeve Carney, an immortal who does not age despite the excesses in which they live; his portrait of him suffers all the changes he as a man should experience. A story created by British writer Oscar Wilde.
Basically we have a mixture of stories. It is an experiment that works, since all the stories seem to fit perfectly to the main way that we have. It is a story that is not limited to the images shown, there is sex, possessions, death, magic, mystery, pain and blood, with very few quiet moments; keeping the viewer in suspense.
It is narrated elegantly, each situation is related to another, and never occur isolated facts that neglect the production. The scenery is impeccable, and the costumes of each character representing a particular moment that passed. There are allusions to literature and art as elements that complement citizens of 1800, creating curiosity in each viewer. The series has begun filming and has confirmed the participation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde monster. Enjoy “Penny Dreadful” a macabre proposed by the international television.
