There are different types of natural fragrances, such as floral waters you can get from distilled or macerated water. Choose flowers that smell good, such as roses, the queen of gardens. Some flowers have a stronger smell than others. A flower has a fragrance when certain essential oils are found in its petals. Jasmine has a sweet smell and releases an intense fragrance during the night, especially during a full moon. It is widely used in the manufacture of perfume and cosmetics.
Gardenias are popular wedding flowers due to their beauty and fragrance. They are also widely used to make perfumes. Other flowers that have a rich fragrance are Alyssum Dulce and Frangipani, also known as Hawaiian flower. To make your own perfume at home, you will need 96% alcohol, a glass jar that can be properly sealed and flower petals of your choice.
Making natural perfume consists in cutting flower petals into small pieces and putting them into the glass jar. They must cover ¾ of the jar. Cover the petals with the alcohol and close the lid. Keep it in a dark place for 3-4 weeks. Shake the glass jar every day. After the 3-4 weeks, filter the content and you will have your perfume.
You can also make perfume with essential oils that are extracted from seeds, stems, roots, flowers or fruit. There is a wide variety of essential oils on the market, but the best ones are the certified organic essential oils. They are classified into top, middle and base fragrance notes. Among them are sweet orange, peppermint, lime, lavender, eucalyptus, citronella, chamomile, pine, cedar and grapefruit.
When making perfumes with essential oil you must follow an order. use jojoba oil as your carrier oil, then add the base notes, middle notes, and finally the top notes. Pour 10 ml of jojoba oil in a glass jar, then add 3-5 drops of a base note oil, 8-10 drops of a middle note oil, and 8-10 drops of a top note oil. Then, seal the lid and leave it to macerate from 2 to 3 weeks. When it’s ready, put some drops of that perfume on a tissue to check the strength of the fragrance. Once you achieve the smell you like, apply some drops on your neck and wrists.
Be creative and dare to try different fragrances for your personal use. You might end up creating a product that will be loved by everyone.
