Visitor Question or Comment:

Respected gentlemen, what is the meaning of the acronyms PPT and PPS, in Power Point. I know that in the first ones I can work on them.
Thank you so much.

Response from ALEGSA.com.ar:

PPT is the extension for files created in the PowerPoint application. PPT stands for PowerPoint (hence the acronym PPT). As of the 2007 version of Office, .pptx extensions are generated (the same happens with other formats such as Word’s .docx, for example).

For more information see: ppt (file extension)

PPS are also slides created with the PowerPoint program, they are basically the same as PPT only with a different extension name. PPS stands for PowerPoint Slideshow. A PPS is a PowerPoint PPT presentation whose extension has been modified so that it can be opened autonomously. After the 2007 version of Office the .ppsx extensions are generated.

PPT, PPTX, PPS, and PPSX files can be opened and viewed with PowerPoint and other programs such as PowerPoint Viewer and OpenOffice Impress.

What is the difference then between PPT (pptx) and PPS (ppsx)?

In general, when we open a PPT file with PowerPoint, it will be opened for editing (we’ll look at PowerPoint’s items and menus for this). On the other hand, when we open a PPS file directly, the presentation will be executed (not to be modified).

But in essence they are exactly the same and the extension can be renamed simply by changing its name.
