Definition of Text Interface (TUI)

Type of interface where only text (characters) is used to form the screen image. It is halfway between a command line interface (CLI) and a graphical user interface (GUI). Sometimes you can have mouse cursor support.

Also called: Text-based user interface (TUI), Textual user interface, and terminal user interface.

Basically all the elements that we recognize today as icons, buttons, windows and other graphics in a graphical interface, are made up of characters: letters, numbers and symbols.

Currently the preponderant interface in operating systems for the mass public is the graphical interface (GUI). However, both the command line interface and the text interface are still used on multiple devices, even with advantages over the GUI interface.
