Why does Wonder Woman use the lasso of truth?

(DC Films/Warner Bros/Playback)

To control people and get confessions they would never naturally give. According to the mythology of the DC comics, the accessory is unbreakable, has infinite elasticity and is strong enough to hold Hercules.

The curious thing is that William Moulton Marston, creator of the heroine (whose name is Diana), also invented one of the technologies that make up the polygraph, a lie detector device! That is, the lasso of truth (also called the magic lasso and golden lasso) is a superpower version of Marston’s invention.

The artifact already appears in the character’s first HQ, in 1942, when she receives the Wonder Woman uniform from her mother. Fans say the gift is a reward for two of Hercules’ labors that Diana fulfilled for the goddess Aphrodite.
