It’s simple: because the taste of human secretions depends on the material they are made of. Most of them are made up of water and protein. Some, like semen, milk and sweat, taste different depending on what we eat. “An example is garlic, which changes the appearance of elements in sweat and even tears”, says Alfredo Salin Helito, from Hospital Sírio-Libanês.
HAS A LIKE FOR EVERYTHING
From salt to substances present in corpses, what is in the secretions
SWEAT
Composed of sodium chloride, potassium, fatty acids and proteins. The salty taste comes from sodium and potassium.
BILE
Produced by the liver, this liquid has bilirubinate (which gives the yellowish color), cholesterol and bile salts, responsible for the bitter taste.
EAR WAX
It contains peptides, fatty acids, cholesterol and the enzyme lysozyme. Its bitter taste and its sticky consistency serve to repel insects.
URINE
It has urea, uric acid and mineral salts (potassium, calcium, magnesium, chlorine and sodium), which give the salty taste
MILK
Consisting of polyamines, fat and immunoglobulins. But it is the sugar present in lactose that gives it its slightly sweet taste.
TEARDROP
Contains proteins (such as albumin, lysozyme, mucin and monoglobulin), but sodium chloride is responsible for the salty taste
SEMEN
It has glucose and lactose, as well as spermine, putrescine and cadaverine – present in cadavers! -, slightly salty in taste
VAGINAL SECRETION
Flavor variations depend on scale, calculus and bacterial flora. Depending on these bacteria, the taste will be different, tending towards acidic and salty.
