Who was Mohammed?

(/)

He is the prophet and the most important figure of Islam. Born in Mecca in the year 570 as Muhammad, he spent most of his life as an illiterate merchant, but at the age of 40 he would have received his first revelations from the archangel Gabriel. The phenomenon was repeated for 23 years and gave rise to the Koran, the holy book of the Muslims.

Mohammed preached devotion to a single God (Allah), fought against infanticide and defended the division of land between the rich and the poor, opposing the ruling class of Mecca. He was persecuted and moved to Medina, where he formed a powerful force. He returned two years later and rose as a political leader. At that time, Arab society was divided into tribes and clans, and it can be said that Muhammad provided national unity through religion, helping to position the Arab nation as a cultural and scientific pioneer 200 years later.
