It’s the ‘official’ hairstyle for schoolgirls, but its eternal childhood meaning has always been on the line. The two braids were perfect for infantilizing the sexy image of Judy Garland in her role as Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz (1939), but they were also the object of masculine desire in the curly hair of a young Norma Jean in the 1940s –before of disappearing from the blonde hair of Marilyn Monroe– or in its undone version in the case of Brigitte Bardot in the 1960s.

Despite his background indicating just the opposite, wearing two braids is the classic hairstyle that takes years away. Far from thinking that it is a passing trend, the spring-summer 2015 catwalks – an ideal time to show them off without complexes – already predict a long reign of the two braids with the proposals of DKNY in the wet version, Maria Ke Fisherman in key futuristic or with loose hair in Vera Wang.

The braids have a thousand and one versions totally adaptable to any type of hair, face or situation, being able to provide sophisticated, casual or youthful looks. You just have to dare to experiment with them and get the most out of them on any occasion adapted to you”, explains Beatriz Mora, hair stylist at Art Lab.
