Which country has the most forests?

If we consider the criterion of total area, the champion is Russia. The land of vodka has 8.5 million km2 of forests, 22% of the world’s green area, equivalent to the territory of Brazil. The predominant plant formations there are the boreal forests, typical of temperate climates and formed mainly by trees adapted to the cold, such as pines. In the ranking of forests, our country is in second place. If we restrict the list to tropical forests, we skip to the first one. We owe this to the Amazon rainforest, the largest tropical forest on the planet, with an area of 3 million km2. Now, if we take the country that has the highest percentage of its territory covered by forests, the green mug goes to Suriname. No less than 90% of the country still has vegetation cover – in Brazil this index is 63%. According to data from the United Nations (UN), forests represent 30% of the world’s territory. Of this total, about 36% are primary forests – vegetation over 8,000 years old that has not yet been modified by man. Half of the primary forests that existed on the planet have already been destroyed. Devastation is most severe in Western Europe, which has already lost 99.7% of its original forest cover.
