Where do owls stay during the day?

Most owls shelter in caves or tree branches during the day. Some species, such as the buraqueira, hide in holes and burrows dug in the ground. Still others use church towers, roofs and ceilings of old houses as “bedrooms”. In the woods, to escape enemies and not be attacked while sleeping, the owl uses its plumage – which ranges from yellowish-white to black – to blend in with the foliage and branches of trees. “Although it is a crepuscular and nocturnal bird, owls are also active and see well during the day. But, as they use this period to rest, they are more susceptible to predators, such as snakes and other birds”, says ornithologist Carlos Eduardo Sant’Ana, from the Catholic University of Goiás.
