Probably the winner was the US edition of November 1972, which featured model Pamela Rawlings on the cover. Even without official data – in the United States, the magazine’s circulation only began to be audited in 1994 -, the publisher that owns Playboy’s rights estimates that this edition has surpassed the mark of 7.1 million copies sold on newsstands. After the official statistics appeared, the numbers became much more modest. Over the past ten years, the winning edition featured the bunny you see next door on the cover, model Joanie Laurer, better known as Chyna. Disappointed? Here’s a little explanation for this weird American taste. In the 1990s, Chyna was one of the main stars of televised wrestling championships – in the United States, this “sport” in which beatings are combined is a tremendous success. So, it is not surprising that these “Massaranduba” style beauties knock out the Yankee public. Proof of this is that another Playboy champion, the pumped-up Sable, is also part of the wrestling pantheon. In circulation on newsstands, the brutish blonde is second only to Chyna and veteran actress Farrah Fawcett, who took off her clothes in the magazine at age 48, almost two decades after gaining fame on the TV series As Panthers. The Top 5 is completed by supermodel Cindy Crawford and German skater Katerina Witt, gold medalist at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. In addition to the United States, 18 other countries have local editions of the magazine. In this international ranking, Brazil is by far the largest market. Around here, the first essay by Joana Prado, a Feiticeira, reached the milestone of 1.1 million copies. Other hot girls that appear at the top of the list are the model Suzana Alves, the former Tiazinha, the presenter Adriane Galisteu and the dancer Scheila Carvalho, who boosted the magazine’s sales the four times she showed her tchan.
