What makes V-engines more powerful than others?

Well, it’s not the fact that a car has a “V” engine that makes it more powerful. Cylinder capacity – the total volume of the engine’s cylinders – is much more important in this respect than how the cylinders are arranged, in a “V” or “in-line”. Car engines work with small explosions of gasoline mixed with compressed air, a reaction that takes place exactly in the cylinders. The explosions move a piston, which in turn triggers a sequence of gears that make the car move. The larger the explosions, the greater the ability of the car to go quickly. Thus, the greater the displacement of an engine, the more chances that the power will be greater as well. Usually passenger cars have four cylinders. If each of them has half a liter of volumetric capacity, the total displacement of the engine will be 2 liters, that is, it is the “2.0” car.

And what does the “V” engine have to do with this story? Well, in normal engines, the cylinders are usually one after the other, that’s why they are called “in line”. Cars V6, V8 etc. arrange the cylinders half on each side of the engine. Only this format, alone, does not guarantee greater power, but it allows more cylinders to fit in the same engine space. And then, yes, the more cylinders the car has, the more cylinder capacity and power it can have.

A “V6” engine has six cylinders, three on each side. This format saves space and allows you to fit more than four cylinders in the engine. The increase in total displacement can guarantee greater power. It is possible to have a vehicle with up to 12 cylinders “in line”, but the problem is that your engine is too big

“In-line” engine

This typical “in-line” engine has four cylinders, each with its own piston. Every minute, hundreds of microexplosions inside the cylinders move the pistons up and down, causing various gears to turn and the car to move forward.
