What is the record number of twins born in a single pregnancy?

Reader Question – Marcos Correa, Cunha Porã, SC

According to Guinness, there are two record holders. In 1971, Australian Geraldine Brodrick gave birth to nine twins, but they all died in less than six days – she holds the mark for “most children born in a single birth”. The eight babies of the American Nadya Suleman survived and were the first twins in such a large number to reach infancy, a record for “the most children born in a single birth to survive”. Born in California, the babies were the result of in vitro fertilization and already had six siblings at home. Nadya wanted a big family to make up for her childhood loneliness. All 14 children came from the sperm donation of a friend, who does not participate in family life – Nadya is a single mother. The cesarean section of the octotwins was performed in the 30th week of pregnancy (normal would be from the 37th to the 40th week) and required 46 professionals involved in the surgery. In 2012, bankrupt and needing to support all her offspring, the octomom, as she became known, gave in and made the porn video Octomom: Home Alone.
