The earliest reference to this hobby came from excavations at the temple of Kurna, from the 14th century BC, in Egypt. Archaeological findings, however, show that it was developed independently in different regions of the planet, such as ancient China and pre-Columbian America. It is also known that it is part of the games known as “mill family” or “trail” – in which the objective is to position the pieces so that they form a straight line. There are also versions in which the numbers of rows and columns vary, usually three or five. Known practically all over the world, the name of the game varies according to the region. In China from 500 BC, it was known as luk isut ki. In English-speaking countries, it is called tic-tac-toe.
