What is the difference between crab and crab?

Every crab is actually a crab too. The explanation is simple: siri is just a popular name given to members of the Portunidae, one of several families of crabs. Both belong to a larger group of crustaceans, the decapods, which, as the name implies, have as their main characteristic the fact that they have ten legs – which makes shrimps and lobsters also belong to the same group. The most obvious difference between crabs and other crab species is the shape of the two hind legs. “In crabs, they are not pointed – as in other crabs – but flat and broad. Thanks to this characteristic, the crab is the only crab capable of swimming”, says biologist Sérgio Luiz de Siqueira Bueno, from USP. The size varies greatly from one species to another, but the largest crabs do not exceed 20 centimeters in wingspan, while certain crabs can reach up to 50 centimeters. To complete, there are still some differences in habits between them.

Unlike other crabs, crabs are exclusively marine animals – they do not live in fresh water, although they do eventually enter mangroves. The strange sideways movement of crabs is only usually imitated by other types of crab when they feel threatened.
