The typical computer webcam has the following characteristics:
* It is a peripheral or input device, since the main flow of information enters the computer (the image it is capturing).
* It is a small device, sometimes it is attached to the computer (above the monitor) or as an external component that is supported or attached to surfaces or the frame of the monitor.
* Webcams, in general, produce lower image quality and smaller than video recorders, since their function is to transmit video over the Internet. In any case, this is changing little by little, due to the increase in internet speed.
* The most advanced webcams can serve as photo capture (some even have memory), as security video cameras or motion detectors, etc. They also serve as a means of security, detecting the computer user by his face.
