Volkswagen’s epic hippie minivan is back (and it’s electric)

The classic van vw is back and this time, in a electric model. Apparently, the popular car brand Volkswagen is making the dream of many come true. hippies outsiders (like us): imagine that you will be able to drive this beautiful classic combi and that it will not only be able to take you to the new psychedelic music festivals or to have a good road trip through the country and its natural landscapes, but it will also do so without burdening your conscience with an overwhelming carbon footprint.

Did you know that breathing air in CDMX is equivalent to smoking 40 cigarettes a day? It is a devastating fact, and yet we should not believe that it is all our fault: the car companies are responsible for moving towards another form of market and, in that sense, also for moving consumers forward. But while this is happening, motorists can begin to acquire new habits (such as using the car less and the bicycle more) and car brands, begin to set their sights on electric prototypes whose production does not cause major impacts on the environment.

Volkswagen has already taken a big step with its new model ID Buzza more modern version of the classic minivan, which will have a range of almost 500 kilometers and will will charge up to 80% in just half an hour. The combi will have a driving range of between 434 and 547 kilometers depending on its battery. The new model also integrates a light strip leds that will surround the car, giving it a very special fresh and futuristic look.

And as if that were not enough, the combi will also offer a preview of the type of autonomous technology that VW will develop for future models, namely its fully automated «ID». The steering wheel will be foldable and will have a screen that will include augmented reality.

Although this new model is far from resembling the combi hippy from the 60s and 70s, the truth is that it shares its most important properties with the classic vintagesuch as the windows, the ample space and the ability to move the seats to turn the interior into shared and rest areas.

Although the brand Volkswagen had been telling us about the return of this classic car for years, this new model will come out for sale until 2022. And like any electric car, the price is expected to be probably unattainable.

But don’t worry, there is always the possibility of making your own classic electric combias this man did in San Diego.

For now, here are some lovely images of the new van vw:
