A dog bed is all well and good, because I do not begrudge my four-legged darling that he can sleep comfortably. However, the bed must also be practical.
For me, the most important point is that the dog bed must be washable. It quickly happens that the dog still has dirty paws when it comes into the house. Drooling stains are also a common sight on dog beds.
In this article I will introduce you to the top 5 washable dog beds and tell you who such a product is useful for and what needs to be considered.
My favorite washable dog beds
All washable dog beds in comparison
Test winner: BedDog dog bed LUPI
The BedDog dog bed is very comfortable and, thanks to the foam flake filling, offers a soft base for your dog. The manufacturer promises that the bed will remain dimensionally stable and robust even after prolonged use.
From the many colors available, you can choose a fabric that goes particularly well with your interior design and thus blends into the overall picture.
Nevertheless, stains appear on the microfiber fabric over time, which impair the beautiful appearance. Some dogs salivate profusely, others sweat their paws easily, still others jump straight into bed after walking through a puddle outside. Some four-legged friends prefer to eat chewing bones or something similar in their cozy bed.
Especially very young and old dogs sometimes have the problem that they cannot always control their bladders well, so that urine can sometimes get on the dog bed.
It is therefore all the more practical that the dog bed can be easily removed with a vacuum cleaner and wiped with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains, you can simply wash the cover at 40 degrees in the washing machine.
Hunter Boston dog sofa
The Hunter dog sofa looks very similar to the BedDog bed just presented. However, it is available in fewer colors.
However, apart from the visual impressions, there are some differences. The dog sofa is equipped with a non-slip underside so that the bed cannot slip. This is especially beneficial for dogs that like to jump into the bed or sleep very restlessly.
The soft pad can be turned over as needed. On one side it is made of the normal fabric like the rest of the bed, on the other side a cuddly plush trimming is sewn on. Depending on what your dog likes better and how it suits the season, you can change the pad.
The fact that the mattress can be rotated is also advantageous because both sides are stressed equally, which helps to prevent sagging.
This dog bed can also be washed in the washing machine at up to 30 degrees.
Dibea dog bed
The first impression you get of this dog bed is the very soft, fluffy look. In this case, the look is not deceptive, because the entire dog bed, but especially the reversible mattress, is very soft and cuddly. However, the filling is very thin overall, so that dogs in particular with a little more weight quickly sink through and then end up lying on the floor again.
The underside of the dog bed is non-slip, so no accidents can happen due to slipping. Furthermore, the entrance is designed extra low so that the dogs do not have to jump into the bed, but can walk in as normal.
The cushions from this dog bed may only be washed by hand. The use of a washing machine is not intended. This makes the maintenance effort a little higher.
Knuffelwuff washable dog bed
The dog bed from Knuffelwuff is a real eye-catcher. It is available in various shades of grey, brown and black and, with these rather muted colours, fits very well into any home.
The covers are made of robust velour, which gives the dog bed its shape. This remains stable even after prolonged use. The material has the Öko-Tex-Standard 100.
The edge is very high at 25cm and therefore provides optimal support for your dog’s head. It also prevents your dog from falling out of bed at night. The lying surface is padded with 15 cm thick foam flakes and is therefore very comfortable.
All covers are removable and can be washed in the washing machine at up to 30 degrees. If some stains can no longer be removed from the fabric, you can also quickly and easily order replacement covers if necessary.
Award winner: Onvaya memory foam dog cushion
This product is not a classic dog bed. Rather, the manufacturer Onvaya offers a dog mattress with very good lying properties.
The orthopedic mattress, made of memory foam, adapts to the dog’s body shape, allowing for a natural, healthy sleeping position.
The inner cover is waterproof, so the mattress will not be damaged by wet paws, saliva or urine. You can wash the outer textile cover at up to 95 degrees in the washing machine. The advantage is obvious, because these high temperatures no longer give germs and bacteria a chance.
Of course, this product does not have the classic edge of a dog bed, which some four-legged friends do not like anyway. Here it is simply a matter of trying out whether your four-legged friend likes this exposed mattress.

Purchase advice
Why a washable dog bed makes sense
A dog bed should be washable in order to be able to remove the dirt that occurs in normal everyday life. This includes hair, mud, saliva and also urine.
If a dog bed is not washable, it quickly becomes very germ-ridden and needs to be replaced. Even products that can be washed by hand often involve a much greater cleaning effort, which is why I recommend that you always choose machine-washable dog beds.

Differences in washable dog beds
The difference often lies in the material. With fabric, it is important that the covers are washable. If your dog bed is made of imitation leather, for example, a simple wipe may be sufficient.
There are also products with removable covers and products where the entire dog bed can be washed. The former is often the simpler and more space-saving option, since the entire cushion of a dog bed often does not fit in the standard washing machines.
In addition, with pillows that are washed, there is always a risk that the filling will be unevenly distributed or clump together and will no longer be usable. That’s why I prefer to only wash the covers.

Which size for which dog?
It is not possible to say in general which dog bed size is right for your dog, as each manufacturer has different dimensions. It is therefore essential to pay attention to the dimensions and not just to the designations «L» or «XL», as these can vary from brand to brand. You can find out more about size in my XXL dog bed test report.
Most manufacturers have their own size chart for their products, which describes how to measure your dog and which product you should choose based on these measurements. It is also advisable to read the previous customer reviews, for example on Amazon. There you can often find out which breeds a product is suitable for.
Conclusion
The ONVAYA dog cushion emerged as the test winner from the tested products. Although this is not a classic dog bed with a side edge, but «only» a mattress, it has many advantages.
On the one hand, the missing edge allows your dog to stretch out and turn on the mattress as he wants. On the other hand, the mattress is the only one in our test that is made of memory foam and has an orthopedic function. It relieves the back and joints and thus contributes to maintaining health or recovery.
Another big advantage is that the cover can be washed at up to 95 degrees. For classic dog beds, a washing temperature of 30, 40 or a maximum of 60 degrees is often standard, although most germs and bacteria persist at these degrees. In comparison, the ONVAYA dog cushion can be cleaned perfectly hygienically.
