Title bar definition

The title bar is an element of the graphical interfaces that is found in the uppermost part of a window, where a title appears that corresponds to its content. Title bar in English.

In general, the classic title bar appears as a horizontal bar at the top of the window, along with other buttons like maximize, minimize, close, etc.

Title Bar Features

The title of the title bar usually uses a text that tells the name of the application and/or the document that contains that window. Web browsers usually display the title of the web page you are currently viewing in that bar.

They also usually have an icon that is generally the one that corresponds to the application.

In modern operating systems and applications, icons with access to the most basic functions of the program such as save document or back and forward functions have also been added to the title bars.

The title bar also allows you to reposition a window, using the mouse’s drag and drop functionality.

Typical Features and Utilities of Title Bars

– They give information about the window or its content: name of the program, name of the open file or web page, etc.

– They let you know if the window is active or not, generally because the title bar has a different color for inactive windows (see image below).

– Access to basic window control functions such as moving, maximizing, minimizing, restoring, closing, resizing, etc. In Windows these functions can be accessed by pressing Alt + Spacebar.
