Tips to make your own garden in a glass bottle

Nature has amazing characteristics, such as balance and adaptability. Thanks to the balance of its processes, nature enters into perfect harmony in order to ensure its survival.

Every day we witness this type of evidence when admiring trees in the streets, planting orchards and caring for certain crops or flowers, among others, and even learning about the existence of bottled gardens since 1960.

There are numerous options to generate this balanced atmosphere within our home, and one of them is growing in glass bottles. The way to do it is simple, since it only requires accessories that are easily available.

Ingredients: glass bottle, clay balls (wet sand, marble, stone or gravel), activated or horticultural carbon, earth, seeds, peat moss and spoon (or tongs).

Instructions: First pour 3cm of clay balls into the bottle. These materials will act as drainage, absorbing excess water. Then add a little activated or horticultural carbon, which will help keep the soil cool. Cover these layers with 6cm of soil and peat moss. In case the dirt clumps in one part, remove it with a spoon. Finally, plant the seeds from the outside in, spreading them 3cm apart; in this way the roots will cover the earth, establishing themselves.

Recommendations:

  • To water the bottle garden, drip a glass of water into the bottle, moistening the soil and bare areas (without moss) to prevent it from drying out.
  • Bottle gardens require a high degree of humidity.
  • Avoid mixing plants that need different types of care and watering.
