A playful mountain lion…
In our TIERART wildlife station, Tikam has grown into a healthy young puma, a real bundle of energy and very playful. He loves to sneak up on silent feet and then launch lightning-fast dummy attacks.
He particularly likes to do this with his neighbor, the tigress Cara: Tikam hides behind a tree or bush and jumps out at the crucial moment when Cara passes by the neighboring enclosure. And the little puma always puts the giant tigress to flight!
… want to aim high
In order for a puma to really let off steam, it needs a very special enclosure. Temporarily we were able to accommodate Tikam in an empty tiger enclosure, which we had covered with a lattice especially for him. Otherwise the little one would have escaped quickly, because pumas are not only much better climbers than tigers, they can also jump up to six meters!
Its name says it all: «Tikam» is Indian and means something like «the mountain lion preparing to jump».
That’s why Tikam is now getting its own enclosure: The new Puma facility is 840 square meters in size, seven meters high and completely designed for the requirements of a mountain lion. Here he can climb high, has many climbing trees, sandstone rocks and hiding places.
As soon as the last minor work on the enclosure is finished, Tikam can move. The animal keepers are already training him diligently so that he can go into the transport box without stress and, above all, without anesthesia. We are very excited to see what he will do in his new kingdom!
It is thanks to animal-loving people like you that Tikam is doing so well today. Only together can we take care of him, save many more animals from great need and give them a loving home.
