It is said that some of the ideas with which religion has grown over time, were actually built by humans. Science to a certain extent can explain life and much of what surrounds us, but there is still a space in which logic is lost and little by little beliefs creep in. For example, the physical appearance of some religious figures such as angels.
The existence of angels is something that scientifically has no explanation. Its appearance in human life dates back to Zoroastrianism in 1300 BC, one of the oldest religions in the world. In this Iranian religion, they spoke of «wise», intelligent beings endowed with different powers. From this idea came other figures such as angels and archangels, which are already mentioned in the Old Testament of the Bible.
For a long time it was discussed in essence what the angels were; if they were pure spirits or exactly how they were and even what they would be. All this led to the Bible speaking of angels as a creation of God.
But even among God’s creations there are diverse characteristics and that is that angels were described in many ways, except as we have portrayed them throughout history.
What are angels like according to the Bible?
There have been many representations of angels throughout history, but according to the Bible these entities are very different from what we imagine. According to the scriptures Ezekiel I: 4-14, Isaiah VI: 2-8 and Revelation IV: 8, there are seraphim and cherubim, just two of the nine categories of angels that exist.
Following the curious origin of the angels and their representation, the artist Jonas Pfeiffer created a 3D animation of what the angels would look like based on the characteristics marked in the scriptures. The result was an image that is far from what we know today as angels and that could undoubtedly be part of a fantastic world.
“Above Him were seraphs; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew.
“Each one had four faces and four wings. And their feet were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the soles of a calf’s foot; and they sparkled like highly burnished bronze. Under their wings, on their four sides, they had the hands of a man; and their faces and their wings on all four sides. With their wings they joined each other. They did not turn as they went, but each walked straight ahead. And the appearance of their faces was the face of a man, and the face of a lion on the right side of the four, and the face of an ox on the left of the four; likewise there was an eagle’s face on all four. That was their faces. And they had their wings stretched out above, each one two, which came together; and the other two covered their bodies.”
