It was revealed that they sue Netflix for the success of their series squid game, which continues to be a trend all over the world.
Not long ago the streaming company launched the South Korean series in its catalog and it became a complete hit in the world. the squid game is about to become the most watched program in the history of Netflix and this was achieved by the hook that the story had among users. Regardless of whether or not it is violent enough, the truth is that the viewers who follow it already number in the billions.
Although there are many recommended movies on Netflix to binge on the weekend, it seems that the series are still the queens. Of course, what they did not count on on the platform is that a lawsuit would arise in which, if they lose, they would force it to help pay for network traffic services in South Korea.
They sue Netflix for the success of their series The Squid Game
Although it may seem difficult to digest in the midst of the digital boom, internet servers sometimes cannot stand the number of people who use them at the same time. Well, the South Korean Internet service provider, known as SK Broadband, claims that many people are watching the series at the same time, which causes network traffic costs to rise.
The popularity of the squid game, has made Netflix the second largest generator of data traffic in South Korea, after Google’s YouTube. With this information, SK Broadband filed a lawsuit against Netflix to pay for the use of SK networks. This added to the fact that Netflix data traffic (handled by SK) increased almost 24 times since May 2018, reaching 1.2 billion bits of data processed per second in September.
In this way, the company Netflix said that it will review the claim of SK Broadband, trying to appeal to dialogue and that among others, it will explore ways to work in association with said company to guarantee that no client can be affected in the provision of the service. If Netflix loses the demand, it would have to pay for the use of the network, a situation that does not occur for now, although companies such as Facebook, Apple and Amazon are obliged to do so.
