The study was based on the mental speed of people when associating the sounds of some songs that they were listening to and these were the songs that most of the respondents have recorded in their minds.

The list was created by Ashley Burgoyne and a group of colleagues at the University of Amsterdam, based on a game they created to see how long it takes people to say if they know the song.

«We were particularly interested in music and memory and why exactly certain pieces of music remain in our memory for a long time,» Burgoyne told the BBC.
