This new fashion began with the viralization of the networks by the virtual community 4chan, a site for uploading photos on Instagram and sharing them on Twitter with the hashtag #bikinibridge, which has enthusiasts of this new style uploading photos en masse.

In some cases, the anatomy of women can achieve this effect, but in most, they fall into eating disorders in order to achieve a flat stomach.

Dissenting voices of this trend pointed out that the «Bikini Bridge» does nothing more than put undue pressure on women to look thin and not accept their body as it is.

Psychologist Louise Adams stated, in an interview with ABC.com, that the «Bikini Bidge» trend is like a «tsunami of negative images» of the female body, according to the British newspaper Daily Mail.
