Its origin dates back between 1660 and 1661 when the French adventurer and merchant, Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, acquired the gemstone. triangular in shape and gross weight of 115 carats after extracting it from the Kollur mine, located in Golconda, India.

Back then, the gem was known as the Tavernier Diamond and, according to legend, it was carved by an ancient sun deity. and later stolen from the eye of a statuette carved in honor of the Goddess Sita, according to the Hindu tradition.

It was the year 1668 when, before dying of cold and devoured by vermin, Jean-Baptiste Tavernier sold the precious rock to King Louis XIV of France, who died of gangrene. After the monarch’s death, the French crown jeweler, Sieur Pitau, cut the stone and created a 45.52-carat diamond.
