It’s pouring rain and your dog doesn’t want to go outside without protection?
Understandable, after all you put on a rain jacket or take an umbrella with you.
In such situations I am glad to have a good raincoat for my dog. I have tried many products and in this article I would like to give you tips on which models and brands are recommended.
In more than 13 hours of research, I looked at numerous products and evaluated them based on the information provided by the manufacturers and with the help of previous customer experiences. Based on this, I was able to create my own ranking list with my top 5 products.
At the top is the extremely warm dog coat from Hurtta. This product is not only ideal for rainy days, but also for the cold winter months. Your dog is perfectly protected and will not get wet. The company Ireenuo is the winner in my test.
But the other tested raincoats for dogs are also of the highest quality, fulfill their function and have convinced me very much.
I’m curious what you say about the models and which one will become your personal favourite.
Have fun while reading.

Hurtta Extremely Warm Dog Coat
The extremely warm dog coat from Hurtta is a waterproof coat that can easily withstand heavy rain showers. Your dog always stays dry. The coat is also made of a special material that reflects your four-legged friend’s body heat.
This functionality makes the Hurtta coat one of the warmest dog coats on the market. The well thought-out cut ensures that all large muscle groups as well as the neck, stomach and chest are well covered and your dog cannot cool down.
The material is also very elastic and comfortable. Your dog benefits from great freedom of movement and a good fit. This is also ensured by the adjustable back length. So you can easily adapt the coat to dogs of different builds.
The integrated reflectors, which reflect back traffic when they are hit by car headlights, ensure a high level of safety. The possibility of leading your dog on a leash thanks to an opening in the coat on the back is also very practical.
Hunter dog coat Uppsala
The Uppsala dog coat is also recommended as a raincoat. The manufacturer Hunter stands for the highest quality and functionality and is not known as the manufacturer of the most popular dog products for nothing.
The high-quality polyester material is water-repellent and reliably keeps your four-legged friend dry. The fleece lining is also very comfortable on cold days. In warmer phases, you can also easily remove this in a few simple steps and quickly adapt the coat to the outside temperatures and weather conditions.
Hunter’s coat also has reflective elements. This is very practical, especially in the dark or during heavy rain showers when visibility is limited.
The coat can be infinitely adjusted and thus perfectly adapted to your dog. And cleaning is no problem either. The product can easily be machine washed at 30 degrees.
Kurgo waterproof dog coat
Next, I would like to present the Kurgo Waterproof Dog Raincoat. The coat consists of a waterproof outer material and is therefore reliably rainproof. In cold temperatures, your dog benefits from the soft fleece lining, which ensures a pleasantly warm and cozy feeling.
The tear-resistant 1200 denier polyester outer material is very durable and durable. Reflective cords are incorporated into the coat. If that’s not enough, the LED light strips will appeal to you. In contrast to pure reflectors, the LEDs can also light up themselves without being illuminated.
So everyone can see your dog from afar.
Trixie raincoat Vimy
The raincoat Vimy by the manufacturer Trixie is strikingly yellow. Admittedly, the color may not be to everyone’s taste, but I have to say that I personally like such a flashy coat very much. First, the dog is clearly visible and stands out more than with a plain coat.
Secondly, the color puts you in a good mood and is a ray of hope on dark, dreary rainy days, and thirdly, the coat is something special and not a run-of-the-mill product. But now to the technical details. The Trixie raincoat is made of polyurethane and polyester. It is windproof and waterproof.
There are two openings for the leash, one for a collar further in front and one for leading the harness further back on the back. Both openings have waterproof zips so that no rain can get through these places either.
The extra high collar, which can be adjusted with a drawstring, protects the neck of the four-legged friend. The raincoat is fastened with a buckle on the stomach. The belt is infinitely adjustable and can be adapted to any dog.
Ireenou Waterproof Dog Coat
At the end of my test, as usual, the winner should not be missing. In this case, that’s the Ireenuo Waterproof Dog Coat. The material reliably keeps rain and dirt away and keeps your dog dry even on very rainy days.
The polyester lining creates a pleasantly warm and comfortable environment, making the coat a good choice even for cold winter days.
The good fit ensures optimal freedom of movement. The extra long Velcro fasteners allow you to adjust the coat individually and adapt it to your dog’s body.
If you drive a lot in traffic, it is also very practical that the coat has reflective elements.
Purchase advice – raincoat dog
Does my dog need a raincoat?
It’s pouring rain, but of course the daily walk shouldn’t be cancelled. While the dog owners throw on their rainproof clothing, many dogs get nothing. Right? As always, that depends.
In a warm summer rain, no dog needs a raincoat. On hot days, the rain is often a welcome cooling off for the four-legged friends. The situation is different when rain falls at low temperatures in autumn or winter. On cold days, some dogs freeze quickly, you should prevent this to avoid illness.
Nevertheless, one cannot say in general that a dog needs a raincoat above a certain temperature. After all, it also depends on how thick your dog’s fur is, how quickly he freezes, whether it rains very heavily or only lightly, and how long you’re out. Ultimately, only you know your dog exactly and whether rain protection makes sense.
So estimate when the dog needs a coat and when it doesn’t. At the latest when your four-legged friend is shaking and freezing, you should go back inside or grab a rain cover. But there is another reason why dog owners use raincoats.
And that has less to do with protecting the dog than with making work easier for the owner. Because when it rains, muddy puddles quickly form. Many dogs have a lot of fun playing and romping in it and get dirty quickly. Anyone who wants to save themselves the complete cleaning of their four-legged friend will benefit from a raincoat for dogs with stomach protection.
Even if you just go for a quick walk in between or want to continue driving after the walk, you should keep your dog dry. Because especially with four-legged friends with long fur, it can take quite a while until they are dry again. And in the car, with guests, etc., a wet dog is not very welcome.
You should pay attention to these features when buying a rain jacket for dogs
waterproof outer material
A rain jacket only makes sense if it reliably keeps the rain off. And that goes for both light drizzle and heavy rain showers. Therefore, the outer material should be waterproof. The previous customer reviews are most likely to provide information on how well the material holds up. But you should also test the product well yourself.
In order not to soil the coat, you can, for example, check the rain resistance with a glass of water or under the tap. You should not compromise when it comes to rainproofing, because a clingy coat that gives way after a short time is worse than no rain protection at all.
When buying, pay close attention to the manufacturer’s information. Some coats need to be impregnated before first use and after washing to develop waterproof properties.
inner material
The inner material depends entirely on what time of year you want to use the raincoat. There are models with a thick lining that keep you warm even in frosty sub-zero temperatures. These products may then be too warm for your dog in the transitional period.
Personally, I find the most ideal raincoats where you can easily remove the lining. So you are as flexible as possible and can always adapt to the outside temperatures individually. On warm days you can of course also use an unlined raincoat for dogs.
Freedom of movement & fit
So that your dog likes wearing the coat and does not have any unpleasant experiences, it should have good freedom of movement. The coat must not pinch or chafe anywhere. The dog has to…
