Product test – the top 6 dog loungers

Test winner: Jolitac dog lounger with roof

The Jolitac dog lounger with a roof has numerous advantages. This already starts with the construction. Putting the individual elements together is enough to quickly turn the lounger into a comfortable place to sleep for your dog or dogs.

The plug-in system may seem impractical at first, but it has convincing advantages. This means that the lounger can be stowed away in a space-saving manner and fits in the trunk, among other things, or can be stowed away in a niche in winter when it is not needed in the garden.

Because it is also suitable for that. As an outdoor dog lounger in sizes from M to XL, the model is ideal for medium to large dogs. Several small four-legged friends also fit on it.

The roof offers protection from the sun. However, it is not a guaranteed security against overheating. Therefore, place the lounger in the shade or in a well-ventilated and therefore cooler area.

You don’t have to worry about the model collapsing either. Since it is a snap-together construction, it proves to be more stable. Although this means a little more effort than simple folding, it makes sense for stronger or more active dogs.

It is not for nothing that this raised dog bed is our premium winner in the test.

pros

  • Available in different sizes
  • made stable
  • easy to clean material
  • with canopy
  • Roof is removable
cons

  • Cannot be folded

lionto Covered dog lounger

The lionto covered dog lounger is shaped like a doghouse. It therefore has a continuous roof and is therefore closed except for the entrance. This is ideal for all dogs that like to feel sheltered and want to sleep in a den or relax and rest in one.

The model is wonderful for the bedroom, the living room or for the garden. It protects against drafts – but only offers good ventilation to a limited extent. If it’s warm and you want or need to give your dog a fresh breeze, you can roll up the roof. Underneath is mesh, which at least lets some air in.

Due to the black color and the dense material, the lionto covered dog lounger is not suitable for an outdoor location in the sun. Although it provides shade, the closed lounger also heats up at the same time. The trapped heat is especially dangerous for dogs with heart or respiratory problems. So pay attention to the location.

On the other hand, the lounger is well protected against rain and the upper material only needs to be cleaned rarely. This is also easy because it is a water-repellent surface.

A potential downside, however, is that you can’t easily disassemble or fold the hut-shaped lounger. It is therefore suitable for your garden or your apartment – but not for traveling or camping.

pros

  • Designed as a kennel
  • available in different sizes
  • Variable roof design
  • durable
  • suitable for inside and outside
cons

  • Lower ventilation due to the shape

Pawhut Elevated Dog Lounger

The Pawhut Raised Dog Lounger is particularly suitable for the garden because it has a roof and several recesses. It also provides shade and allows ventilation from all sides.

Available in different sizes, it suits different breeds as well as sleeping habits and the number of dogs. The washable material is easy to clean when it gets dirty and dries just as quickly. This proves its worth in summer as well as in spring and autumn.

The only disadvantage is that the bed can be stowed away to save space, but cannot be folded up. It can therefore only be disassembled or transported with the roof removed and the feet folded in.

It is therefore rather impractical for a short trip. However, it is ideal for the garden or a longer holiday.

pros

  • Covered
  • easy to take apart and store away
  • loadable up to 50 kilograms
  • very good ventilation
  • available in different sizes

Knuffelwuff dog lounger indoors and outdoors

The Knuffelwuff dog lounger indoors and outdoors is a simple but convincing model. The tubular steel frame ensures stability, while the mesh material is easy to clean, dries quickly and allows good ventilation.

Additional equipment is very possible with the lounger inside and outside. Simply hanging up is sufficient for this. As an XXL model, this version is extremely robust and stable. However, it cannot be folded.

This significantly reduces the risk of collapsing during a jump. However, it also means that the elements are larger and therefore not as easy to transport.

Nevertheless, the quality and the low price make for a good lounger that is worth recommending.

pros

  • Easy construction
  • XXL version
  • easy-care material
  • stable
  • suitable for indoors and outdoors

Amazon Basic dog lounger

The elevated kennel is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, sufficient for small and medium-sized dogs and is also inexpensive. It can be assembled and disassembled with little effort, has a roll-up roof and can therefore also be varied in terms of ventilation.

However, the largely closed shape is generally detrimental to ventilation. The roof provides shade, but the closed side walls, like the dense material, can also trap heat.

This version is therefore better suited for indoor use, dogs that like and tolerate warmth and cold weather conditions. This also makes camping during cooler times more pleasant for the dog.

pros

  • Low price
  • held in the form of a hut
  • roll-up roof
  • easy-care fabric
cons

  • Ventilation is restricted

Lionto outdoor dog lounger

The Lionto Outdoor dog lounger is my price-performance winner. Simple in construction, but with a load capacity of up to 90 kilograms, the model is ideal for very large or agile dogs.

It is stable, stable and also withstands puppy teeth. In addition, the material is easy to clean.

This makes this lounger ideal for the garden as a resting place after romping and playing. It is also a good choice for large dogs.

pros

  • Very resilient
  • inexpensive
  • simple design
  • good ventilation
cons

  • Not suitable for mobile use

Buying Guide – Dog Lounger

What is a dog lounger?

A dog bed can be compared well with a folding bed or a camp bed. A fabric that serves as a mattress is stretched over a metal frame.

The loungers for dogs can usually either be folded up or quickly dismantled into individual parts.

What are the advantages of a dog lounger?

Dog beds create a distance to the ground. This means that your dog does not have to lie on wet grass, cold or very warm stones, for example. It is also not exposed to draughts.

Depending on the model, you can also easily stow the lounger, so you can take it with you when camping, use it in a hotel or move it around again and again.

Another clear advantage is that you can equip dog loungers in different ways and they relieve your dog’s joints and thus prevent arthrosis. Blankets, pillows, underlays or no pad at all – changes and adjustments are possible without much effort and can be individually designed.

How should a lounger for the dog be chosen?

There are various factors for this. One of them is size. Of course, a Chihuahua does not need as much lying space as a St. Bernard. If your dog prefers to stretch out, he needs more space. If you have several dogs, they should also be able to lie comfortably next to each other.

The existing stand space, but also the location play a decisive role. If the lounger is only used indoors and has a fixed location, a simple model is sufficient.

If, on the other hand, it is to be an outdoor dog lounger or suitable for XXL four-legged friends, the design must be weatherproof or particularly resilient.

For camping or use on the go, it is crucial that the lounger can be stowed away quickly and space-savingly and is lightweight.

It is ideal if you make all the criteria that are really important for you and your dog clear before you buy one. In this way you can avoid bad purchases.

What are the differences in dog loungers?

The elevated pet beds differ in terms of:

  • Size
  • resilience
  • operation area
  • Weight
  • storage space
  • additions

For example, some dog loungers can be equipped with a roof. Others can be folded or have a particularly thin and airy material.

Are dog loungers only suitable for outdoor use?

No, they can be used wherever it is necessary. Many dogs also appreciate the soft ground and would rather lie on a raised dog bed than on the hard, wet, cold or warm floor.

You can therefore also set up the dog lounger in the living room, offer it to your dog if it can no longer jump well due to arthrosis or other restrictions or if it should not sleep in the bed but should still be accessible to you.

A simple lounger can be an alternative to the dog bed and just as much a complement to it. So you shouldn’t ask yourself whether a dog lounger or a dog bed is the better solution. Both can be ideal. An additional XXL lounger is often cheaper, especially for larger animals.

On the one hand, it is easier to clean than a dog bed that does not fit in the washing machine. On the other hand, a lounger is a good additional solution for animals that can no longer climb well, but still want to lie higher. So if a dog can’t get on the couch, you can’t lift it, or your floor is very cold, a lounger can be ideal.

You can even put a dog bed on it and additionally insulate it from below. Because blankets or styrofoam plates already laid underneath, in combination with the distance, provide further protection and prevent hypothermia.

What is the point of a roof on the dog beds?

It acts as a sunscreen but can also keep rain out. When choosing, make sure that your dog can easily climb onto the lounger.

With some models, this is only possible for small dogs because the entrances are kept low.

What disadvantages can dog loungers have?

Potential downsides are that the loungers aren’t…
