Have you ever seen a dog buggy? Some kind of stroller for dogs? Well I do and at first glance it might seem strange and as if the dog owners were coddling their four-legged friends. But if you think about it, the buggies really come in handy.
Small dog breeds, very young, old or sick dogs cannot take longer walks on their own. The dog owner then has two alternatives: leave the four-legged friend at home or cancel the trip. Neither is an option for me, so I went looking for another solution and came across dog buggies. Since I travel a lot on uneven ground, I looked around for a dog buggy with air tires.
In this article I will introduce you to the best products and explain what is important when buying them.
My favorite dog buggies with pneumatic tires:
Product test: dog buggy with pneumatic tires
Karlie Sport Buggy No Limit
The dog buggy from the well-known brand Karlie is intended for small dog breeds. Although the interior offers a lot of space compared to competing products, the dog can only weigh a maximum of 15 kilograms.
The interior is beveled. What gives your dog a good view through the large mosquito nets is not quite optimal for safety reasons. It is important that you leash your dog well, otherwise he will slide around on the sloping surface.
The driving characteristics of the sports buggy are very good. The trolley is easy to steer and is very manoeuvrable thanks to the three-wheel structure. A shopping tray and a handbrake provide additional convenience. A rain cover is also included.
If you don’t need the buggy and it would just get in the way, you can easily fold it up. Thanks to the Easy Lock System, you only need a few simple steps and the buggy can be put away to save space. The folding function is also extremely practical for taking with you in the car.
Innopet dog buggy pet stroller
The Innopet Pet Stroller impresses with its flexibly adjustable front wheel. This can either be freely attached or fixed so that the buggy is roadworthy and smooth-running on any surface. Also the maneuvering is easy.
The 12-inch pneumatic wheels do a good job, especially on uneven roads. Because although the dog buggy has no suspension, vibrations are only felt to a lesser extent. This way your dog won’t be shaken up at every pothole.
With a weight of 11 kilograms, the Petstroller is very light, but still very stable. It can be loaded with a weight of up to 25 kilograms. The inside dimensions are sufficient for small and medium-sized dogs.
This buggy also has a folding function, but this only makes sense to a limited extent, as the buggy takes up a lot of space even when folded. This is a big problem, especially if you plan to take the car with you on vacation, as even larger trunks are well filled by the buggy.
Petique Breeze Large Dog Buggy
The Petique dog buggy has a large interior and is designed for a load of up to 30 kilograms. Unlike most competing products, whose interior is relatively high like a pram, the Petique Breeze is built very low. This means that large dogs can also get in alone and do not have to be lifted into the car. When we talk about weights of up to 30 kilograms, that means a real relief. Therefore, the buggy is suitable for all users, including pensioners, dog owners with back problems or other people who are physically unable to lift their heavy dog into a buggy.
A special system allows you to fold the buggy with just one hand. In this state, it is easier to store or take with you in the car.
The patented seat cushions are very soft and easy to wash. So even if your dog pees on the pad the first time, you can easily clean and reuse it.
The push handle is softly padded and therefore very comfortable. But the dog buggy offers another function: it can be converted into a bicycle trailer for dogs in just a few simple steps. The adapter required for this is already included in the scope of delivery.
Viagdo dog cart
Another lightweight is the VIAGDO buggy. It weighs just 9.1 kilograms dead. Nevertheless, the trolley is very stable, thanks to a steel frame and 600D Oxford fabric. The large interior offers enough space. Dogs up to 25 kilograms can get into the buggy.
The construction is very fast and can be done easily by laymen. In addition, the buggy offers a folding function. This saves you a lot of storage space.
The trolley can be used both with closed nets or in convertible mode. With the latter, the hood is open so your dog can sit outside. A double safety line is integrated into the buggy so that your darling does not jump out of the car or is injured when braking suddenly.
A soft and washable mat ensures maximum driving comfort. The front wheel rotates 360 degrees and is equipped with a shock absorber, so you can walk on uneven terrain without your dog being shaken around in the stroller. Additional safety is provided by a parking brake on the rear wheel, which prevents the buggy from rolling away.
We dog owners were also thought of. In addition to a shopping basket in the lower part of the buggy, there is also a drink holder.
Purchase advice: Dog trolley with pneumatic tires
What are the advantages of a dog buggy with pneumatic tires?
Whether for walking, jogging or inline skating – dog buggies are always useful if you want to go on longer trips that your dog cannot physically manage. So that you don’t have to leave your darling at home, it is a good idea to buy a dog buggy and take your four-legged friend with you everywhere.
You should think about how you can protect your dog from bumps and the bumps that come with it, especially if you are traveling on uneven roads or country lanes. A suspension is often the best alternative. However, these models are often very expensive.
Dog buggies with pneumatic wheels are a good compromise. These cushion bumps well and your darling won’t be shaken up quite as much. Additional shock absorbers also increase driving comfort.
By the way: Dogs with joint problems should never be transported in dog buggies that are not spring-loaded or cushioned. Every bump hurts the joints of these four-legged friends, you should definitely prevent that.
Here is an overview of the most important advantages:
- Quiet running properties: Compared to dog buggies with plastic wheels, pneumatic buggies are much more comfortable to drive. Bumps are cushioned and the car is easier to push.
- Dog buggy for rough terrain: Plastic wheels can usually only be used on straight roads. As soon as there is only one larger stone in the way, they can no longer be pushed well or shake your dog with every bump. Pneumatic tires, on the other hand, are suitable for all types of terrain and can be pushed relatively well everywhere.
- You can drive faster: Plastic wheels on dog buggies are often difficult to control at higher speeds. The steering is hardly, the car drives very restless. So if you plan to go jogging or inline skating with your dog buggy, you should use pneumatic tires. These retain their good driving characteristics even at higher speeds.
- Easy tire replacement: Pneumatic tires are durable. If they should break anyway, you can simply replace them. Paste wheels, on the other hand, often cannot be replaced when they are worn out. Once they are used up, a whole new buggy often has to be purchased.
Where there are advantages, there are also disadvantages. These are limited in dog buggies with pneumatic tires, but for the sake of completeness I would like to mention them:
- Maintenance is more complex: With air-filled wheels, the air pressure must be checked regularly and adjusted if necessary. In addition, it is possible that the tires will burst and have to be replaced if there are sharp edges, nails or the like. This danger does not exist with plastic wheels.
- Higher acquisition costs: A dog buggy with pneumatic tires is more expensive to buy than a buggy with plastic wheels. However, this is usually compensated for by a longer shelf life. However, if you’re just looking for a dog buggy for occasional trips on flat roads, a dog buggy with plastic wheels may do the trick.
What you should pay attention to when buying a dog buggy with pneumatic tires
size and resilience
The size of a dog buggy should be chosen at least so that your darling can lie down and stand upright in the car. Turning shouldn’t be a problem either. Smaller buggies mean that your dog has to tense up in the buggy and cannot relax.
But not only the size, but also the resilience has to be considered. Because although some buggies would be big enough to transport larger dog breeds, some are not designed for heavy weights.
Since the risk of material damage and accidents increases extremely when overloaded, you should weigh your dog carefully beforehand and add a few kilograms of buffer. After all, your loved one may gain weight. The leash, treats and other small items that are often placed in the dog buggy add additional weight.
