The broken column

Another of Frida Kahlo's most emblematic works is «The broken column» of 1944, in which he represented the physical pain that prevented him from moving freely. The artist suffered two car accidents throughout her life, which brought her serious complications in the column and the inability to have children.

In this way Frida performed this self -portrait, in which it appears straight ahead, covered by sheets and a metallic corset. His body opens from the neck to let the spine appear, which represents the irreparable damage of the accident.

Likewise, you can see the suffering represented by the numerous nails that are in your skin, and Frida's gaze that expresses an undeniable sadness, with numerous tears that run along their cheeks. This work is currently at the Dolores Olmedo Museum in Mexico City.

Long live life

This was the last picture that Frida signed before she died, in 1954. Although it is certainly known if she was the last one she painted, this painting currently remains at the Casa Azul de Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City.

This work is considered a celebration of life, despite all the suffering that the artist passed. Watermelon is a fruit associated with the skeletons of the days of the dead, so life and death dance in the same picture. Unlike his other works, the tone is optimistic. Thus, Frida said goodbye to «Long live life.»
