I think it’s nicest when my dog walks or jogs next to me, works out really well and just has fun. In some situations, however, this is not possible.
As a puppy, my darling didn’t have the strength and stamina to keep up with me, this also applies to older dogs or injured four-legged friends. For these situations I was looking for a good solution so that I could still take my dog with me. That’s not so easy, because my dog is not the smallest. The result of my research: an XXL dog buggy – a kind of stroller for dogs.
In this article I will tell you what I paid attention to when buying and which products convinced me the most.

If you can imagine buying a dog buggy, you should deal intensively with a few things.
Here is a brief overview of the most important criteria that you should consider before making a purchase:
Size
In order for your dog to enjoy the ride, he needs enough space so he doesn’t have to bend and twist. As a rule of thumb, a dog in a cart must be upright, stretched out, and able to turn around comfortably. Finding a suitable dog buggy for very large dogs can sometimes be a bit difficult with this rule of thumb. But the search is worth it, after all we don’t like sleeping in a bed that is much too small.
Since you don’t travel that fast with a dog buggy for large dogs, the interior can be a little larger. But also make sure that the dog is well secured so that it doesn’t fly around in the car if you have to brake hard. This applies in particular to dog buggies that you also want to use as a bicycle trailer.

Weight
The size fits and everything is fine? That’s only half the truth, because weight also plays an important role. There are some buggies that are very large, but are only approved for dogs up to 30 kilograms. This can be a problem, especially for heavy dog breeds.
Please avoid overloading, because then it is no longer guaranteed that the material will hold and your dog will be safe.
Construction
Some dog buggies have four wheels, some only three. No one can say in general which variant is better. Some like it more flexible with three wheels, others find the stability of the car with four wheels better.
If you are looking for a combination product that can be used as both a buggy and a bike trailer, you will probably only find buggies with three wheels. It has to do with the remodel.
If you are looking for a pure buggy, you are free to choose. The best thing to do is go to a specialist shop and try out the driving characteristics, if necessary with a stroller.

A suspension is comfortable if you are mainly on uneven paths. Your dog won’t be so shaken up and the car will be more stable on the road.
Suspension is a must, especially for dogs with joint problems, because impacts are poisonous for the joints and can cause pain.
For all other dogs, a suspension is a nice extra. If you’re only going to be driving on flat roads anyway, you don’t necessarily need one.
Additional functions
It is always practical to take the buggy with you in the car or plane if it can be folded up. So it takes up less space. That’s why I also prefer foldable dog buggies for storage in winter.
Other functions such as a handbrake or a roof hatch are pleasant extras, but they are not absolutely necessary.
Conclusion
The Ireenuo dog buggy won our XXL dog buggy test. Due to its size and high resilience, it is also well suited for large and heavy dogs. The four wheels ensure a comfortable and safe driving experience. The only disadvantage: the buggy cannot be converted into a bicycle trailer.
