All dogs deserve heaven… but some are trapped in our existential plane. Such was the case with a Newfoundlad dog that refused to leave its owner, John McNeill Boyd, even after he died. The animal stayed by the tomb until it starved to death – and its spirit supposedly continues to stand guard at the site. Several people claim to have already seen the dog, which sometimes appears in St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Worse than a CEMETERY – macabre, just a CEMETERY – macabre in a ghost town! La Noria grew up around a saltpeter mine, WHERE – working conditions bordered on slavery. But after the Great Depression, the local economy tanked and the residents left. Only the spirits of the workers (including children) remain, who still rise from the pits and head to the mine.

According to legend, the girl suffered the accident when she was going to the school dance and the driver was never arrested. According to the Chicago Tribune, paranormal investigators have collected more than 30 reports of apparitions and accidents caused by the “Resurrection Mary”.

7. HE WANTS YOUR BLOOD

While spending the night of December 24, 1970 at this location, the Englishman David Farrant says he saw a “grey figure”. Shortly afterwards, another Englishman, Seán Manchester, expanded the myth: in the 18th century, there had been buried a “Vampire King of the Undead” – a medieval nobleman adept in black magic. It was the beginning of a collective hysteria about the “Highgate Vampire”, which resulted in exorcisms and even books on the subject.

In the 1950s, teenagers would secretly date at this address. Some of the 82 tombs have been vandalized, which perhaps explains why the site is now plagued by all kinds of visitors from beyond. The list includes floating spheres, strange figures dressed as monks who suddenly disappear, a «ghost house» and a dog that disappears when you try to approach it. The Chicago Sun-Times published a photo of the alleged spirit of a woman sitting on a tombstone.

Located on the banks of the PR 323 highway, close to the city of Maringá, this small cemetery, probably created in the 40s or 50s, is abandoned, with the remains of saints, a broken cross and bushes growing out of control. That alone would be scary. But for several generations, the inhabitants of the region have told stories of apparitions at dawn and of spirits that come out of the tomb to cause accidents on the road.

In 2002, a resident knocked down a church made of stones that was located in the north of this cemetery. He could no longer bear the paranormal rumors associated with the place – considered by some occultists as one of the «gates» that would give access to hell. Fame attracts many trespassers, especially on Halloween, when the police need to be extra vigilant. And it got to TV: this is where the apocalypse took place at the end of the fifth season of the Supernatural series

3. THE ATTORNEY’S REVENGE

In the 17th century, attorney George Mackenzie arrested more than 1,200 Presbyterian churchgoers. Some were executed and several died from mistreatment. For this he would have been cursed. He was buried here and, since 1990, there are records that the “Poltergeist Mackenzie” scratched, bit, beat and cut more than 350 visitors. In 2000, there was even an on-site exorcism

2. BURIED ALIVE

It has several hauntings, such as a “lady in white” and a night watchman who allegedly killed himself on the spot. The most famous is Rufina Cambaceres, buried alive in 1902. When the family discovered the girl’s disfigured body, indicating that she had suffocated trying to escape, her father redid the crypt, with a statue of Rufina opening the door. It is said that today she goes from tomb to tomb checking that no one has been buried alive like her.

As the city settled on swampy ground, it was not possible to bury the dead – they returned to the surface when there was heavy rain. The way was to create far-fetched tombs and crypts, above ground, that fill the eyes (and stimulate the creativity of the fearful). There are reports of inexplicable mists, translucent figures and a face appearing on the wall of one of the mausoleums. The big attraction, however, is the tomb of Marie Laveau, the “voodoo queen” who even appeared in American Horror Story. She has been seen resurfacing with a huge snake on her shoulders or as a black cat with red eyes. The brave draw three «X» on her grave to have a wish come true
