A system crash occurs due to a hardware failure or serious software problem, causing the system to freeze, reboot, or stop working. A system failure is considered to be a catastrophic error that completely prevents the use of the computer or electronic device.
A system failure may or may not show an error message on the screen, in fact the most serious ones probably do not show an error message or it is not very specific.
In Windows, when a serious system failure is detected, the famous Blue Screen of Death is displayed.
The causes of a computer failure can be several, the most common and serious are:
– Hard disk with bad sectors or that begins to fail, which end up affecting the operating system.
– Electronic failure on the motherboard, the computer cannot process operations properly.
– Electronic fault in the microprocessor.
– Electronic failure in the RAM memory, in this case it is said that the memory is «punctured». See: How to check the integrity of RAM memory.
– Failure in the computer software, especially in the operating system. Usually caused by viruses.
Sometimes general system failures can occur because, for some reason, the components that make up the computer are overheating. This causes serious system failures.
In some cases, system failure can be synonymous with computer failure, see that article for more information.
