Subfolder Definition

(subdirectory). In computer file storage, every folder belongs to a top-level folder, except the first folder called the root folder (using a tree structure as shown in the image). Therefore, by definition, every folder except the root is a subfolder. However, in practice, subfolders are relative to the active folder. That is, the user is located in a certain folder, and only subfolders are contained by it.

There are file systems that limit the number of subfolders a folder can have.
