squirrel in distress

Baby squirrels are born from January to September. They stay with their parents for up to four months. Squirrel parents often have to travel long distances to find food for their offspring. These often lead over busy roads. They are a great danger for parents and children: if the squirrel parents are run over or injured, the young are left alone. In order to survive, they need help.

Squirrels in distress seek closeness to humans

Unlike other wild animals, squirrels seek close proximity to humans in emergency situations. They run after walkers, sometimes even clinging to them. This is neither aggressive behavior nor a sign of disease! It’s just a cry for help from the little squirrel. If a young animal draws attention to itself in this way, you should never ignore it.
