Satnam: Meaning
SAT NAM is a mantra widely used in Kundalini Yoga, it means SAT Truth NAM = Identity Name = I invoke the Identity of my true personality, in daily life using it, it will clarify your mind and guide your actions.
It is a «seed mantra», a mantra that resonates with all the wisdom contained in a seed of a great tree. So when you plant this seed in your consciousness, over and over again, your soul awakens to meet its destiny.
What are mantras?
Mantras are formulas that alter the patterns of the mind and the chemistry of the brain according to physical and metaphysical laws. The power of a mantra is in the vibration of its sound.
In Kundalini Yoga, mantras are an important part of the practice. The word mantra comes from Sanskrit, it is made up of two words: “man” which means mind, and “tra”, which comes from “trang” and means vibration. So a mantra is a vibration of the mind.
The mantras used in Kundalini Yoga raise or modify consciousness through their meaning and rhythmic repetition. Therefore it is beneficial to link a mantra to the breath.
When we chant Sat Nam (out loud or internally), we resonate with our true identity, with our own truth.
Sat Nam is a powerful affirmation and a powerful way to clear the mind of negative programming. Over time our minds tune in and resonate with who we really are, and we believe in our soul instead of our limited ego. Sat Nam is inner psychology in action.
Satnam: How does it act?
The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas being so experts in the effects of sound on thoughts and body, they have chosen sounds in the form of mantras and chants that go so well and are in harmony with our mind and body. And most importantly, they have a great capacity to stimulate our positive thoughts both explicitly and implicitly.
The chanting of the mantra creates a favorable vibration in the limbic system of the brain, this is affected by the mental repetition of only internal sounds. The mantras flow in waves through the body, vibrating the endocrine glands. Thus the vibrations of the mind and body are synchronized by the mantra.
Work with voice and sound is very important as a work of self-expression and energy discharge, since sound is a powerful tool and a very powerful vehicle for energy circulation.
