PTU 2021 is coming: key recommendations to correctly prepare for the University Transition Test

A little over a month after the PTU 2021 (Transition Test for University Admission), many young people begin to look for various tools and techniques that allow them to better face this important process within their academic life. In order to offer guidance and support to the students who are taking part in this test, Ana HenriquezDean of the Faculty of Education at the University of the Americas, shares the following advice:

PTU 2021 is coming: key recommendations to prepare it correctly

  • Reinforce content already studied: As there is little time left, it is not advisable to start studying new topics, but to reinforce what has already been learned.
  • Respect rest time: Although with little time left, many consider it important to study more, “study marathons” are not good. For the same reason, it is preferable to study a little every day and avoid too long days.
  • Simulate taking the test: It is important to do tests as real as possible, that is, with time, mask, concentrate and without pauses or cell phone.
  • Take advantage of available online platforms: Today there are many alternatives to exercise, including PRE-UDLA. It is recommended to do at least 20 exercises each week of the different subjects to consolidate learning.
  • Strategically plan test development: This includes knowing the score conversion tables to identify how many correct questions correspond to the expected score. Estimate the time you have per question and determine which items to answer first.
  • Take care of the body: It is necessary to generate a routine that includes from feeding schedules as well as the time allocated for exercise or physical activity, since it positively impacts mental health.
  • Controlling stress: The latter increases as the PTU date approaches, so it is advisable to carry out some activity that allows it to be controlled. The simplest thing is to do breathing exercises, also meditate or practice any activity that gives you peace of mind. For it to have an effect, you have to start soon and not the day before the test.
  • Confidence: As the date for taking the test approaches, anxiety tends to increase, which generates insecurity. Faced with this feeling, it is advisable to stop and think about everything that has been done and value it.
  • There are always new opportunities: If something goes wrong and the results are not what they expected, young people can prepare and take the test again or look at other study options. We must not abandon the dream of being a professional, the journey does not have to be perfect, life itself is not, the important thing is to have a positive attitude and know how to face successes as well as defeats.
