Anyone who has seen a mother cow and calf separated from one another has no doubt as to how strong the bond between the two can be. The mother cow tries with all her strength to stand between the farmer and the calf, both try to keep close and call loudly one after the other. Unfortunately, there are not many stories with a “happy ending” and a joyful reunion. Because in intensive animal husbandry there is unfortunately no room for the relationship between «mother and child», as with many other so-called farm animals.
For the production of animal foods such as meat, milk or cheese, mother and young animal are separated from each other only a few hours or directly after birth. Some of them, like chickens, don’t even get to know the mother animal.
