Hamburg, July 10, 2015 – Even though Denmark has made changes to the country’s dog law as of July 1, 2014, the Animal Welfare Foundation and TASSO eV continue to warn against traveling to Denmark with dogs.
Since July 1, 2010, there has been a ban on breeding, keeping and importing the following 13 dog breeds listed as «dangerous» in Denmark: Pitbull Terrier, Tosa Inu, American Staffordshire Terrier, Fila Brasileiro, Dogo Argentino, American Bulldog, Boerboel , Kangal, Central Asian Ovtcharka, Caucasian Ovtcharka, South Russian Ovtcharka, Tornjak and Sarplaninac.
In the case of dogs of these breeds or those whose appearance only resembles one of these breeds and cannot be identified as not belonging to one of the prohibited breeds by means of proof of origin, a police confiscation and possibly even killing must still be expected. This can especially affect mixed breed dogs. The same applies to any dog involved in a biting incident on Danish territory. Since last year, «dog experts» (dog experts) have been deciding whether to kill the dog here, previously this was the task of the police. According to official figures from the Danish Ministry of Agriculture, 600 dogs have been killed under the Danish Dog Law so far, but the Danish organization fairdog estimates this number to be much higher.
