Nicholas Symmes review: Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

We have already begun to see the first launches of new cell phone models this 2021, where the new Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. A very high-end device that brings attractive features when it comes to having a smartphone that does everything you need in the palm of your hand.

In fact, a few days ago in Chile it was launched – online sale, where managed to run out of stock on the first day of pre-sale in 45 minutes. A record of the new equipment that will maintain the pre-sale period until next February 15 through Samsung Stores, Samsung.com, operators and retailers in the country.

I’ve already had the phone in my hands for 5 days, and I want to tell you about the experience of using the first high-end terminal of 2021.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra impressed me from the first moment I held it in my hands. The feeling of premium is something that the phone gives you from the moment you open it in its box. The lateral curves and the format of its screen make it a more comfortable cell phone at hand. In fact, the Gorilla Glass Victus glass that covers the back has the ability to stop dirt and fingerprints. In my case, I have the black color, which usually gets quite dirty, and I have not had any unpleasant stains.

The Ultra version comes with a screen 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED with 120 Hz, where you will have the possibility to combine this high refresh rate with the best resolution. And in fact, it also has LTPO technology, which allows the refresh rate to vary dynamically between 11 and 120 hertz based on the content displayed, achieving battery savings.

As for the cameras, we find several improvements over its predecessors. The photographic configuration looks like this:

Ultra wide angle camera: 12 MP f/2.2, 120º, 1.4μm, 13mm equivalent
Main camera: Samsung ISOCELL HM3 108 MP with OIS, f/1.8, 0.8μm, 24mm equivalent
Telephoto camera 1: 10 MP, 3x optical zoom, OIS, f/2.4, 72mm equivalent
Telephoto camera 2: 10 MP, 10x optical zoom, OIS, f/4.9, 240mm equivalent
Front camera: 50 MP f/2.2, 80°, 25mm equivalent

The sharpness and stabilization of photos is a spectacular experience, where Samsung Controls highlights and shadows very well. Also, the night mode can be used on all sensors and works very well.

But the biggest surprise comes in the double optical zoom, which allows you to have a 3x zoom for portraits or relatively close photos and also a 10x zoom for photography in general. There is also the possibility of capturing images in 12-bit RAW using the camera’s Pro mode.

As for the video, we have the option of recording in 8K with impressive quality. Obviously, there is also the option to record in 4K, with great quality. If videos are your thingI think this phone will be able to help you a lot to record and then to edit.

As a summary of the cameras, I think Samsung managed to fix all the bugs of its previous versionsdelivering a photographic system that, in my opinion, surpasses competitors such as huawei.

If we go to the sound, the S21 Ultra no longer comes with AKG headphones in its box, nor is there an audio minijack or adapter for USB type C. Today everything is intended to be used with wireless devices. That does come with stereo sound and speakers at each end. To my taste the sound is perfect and the maximum volume is adequate.

The battery comes with 5000mAh being able to load it 25W with a compatible charger. The truth is that I used it intensely for my work, providing duration for the whole day. f: @nicolasSymmes

In this version, we have a processor Snapdragon 888unlike in Europe which has a Exynos 2100. It has RAM of 12 and 16GBand it comes with a storage of 128, 256 and 512GB depending on the configuration you buy. It brings the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the screen, which is greatly appreciated because using the face for unlocking is becoming more difficult due to the masks produced by the Covid19 pandemic.

Obviously it is water resistance with certification IP68. And note that for the first time, the S-Pens are available in the Galaxy S version. If you have a tablet or Noteyou can set up the pen seamlessly on this new smartphone.

In short, I think this is the best phone created by the South Korean firm so far, highlighting its large and powerful screen, its anti-fingerprint materials, professional cameras, and a very powerful processor for day-to-day use. Its 5,000 mHz battery is also appreciated. Highly recommended!
