Netflix revives the series ‘Escalona’ starring Carlos Vives

Netflix announced that it will revive the series ´Escalona´ that had Carlos Vives as the protagonist and that marked an era in Colombian television.

Vallenato is definitely the king of musical genres in Colombia. Various minstrels have written the history of Caribbean folklore and among them is the famous teacher Rafael Escalona, ​​writer of immortal lyrics such as The house in the air, The testament Y James Molina. Precisely, his life was portrayed in a series in which his songs were collected, while his loves and funny and painful stories were told.

This series of Caracol Television that aired in 1991, had Carlos Vives and Florina Lemaitre as protagonists, who respectively embodied the teacher Escalona and his eternal love, La Niña Maye. The samarium singer was in the news because Amparo Grisales taught him to kiss and now he is back on the front pages of television because Netflix will reissue the production that fell in love with Colombians.

This series became a cult production for lovers of vallenato music and fulfilled two alternate objectives: to relaunch Vives’ career and to change the course of this genre forever.

The story follows a young and attractive student (Escalona) who tries to maintain his relationship with La Maye, the prettiest girl in town. Soon, the couple will find themselves in a love triangle with Anastasio Espuelas, a mature and enigmatic man. Rafael must then write true musical poetry to win the heart of his beloved and it is there that he becomes a legend with his lyrics.

The series was recorded in different towns and magical corners of Colombia, recreating its festive culture, full of love, respect, friendship and the joy that is experienced in parrandas. The Serie Escalona, ​​a song to lifewon nearly 20 national and international awards, including the India Catalina for Best Telenovela, the TV y Novelas award, and the Simón Bolívar for Best Dramatized.

Other actors who are part of the cast are Rodrigo Obregón, Judy Henríquez, Juan Carlos Arango, Jairo Camargo and Adriana Ricardo.
