Mother’s Day postponed! They seek to avoid massive infections by COVID

Mother’s Day postponed in Colombian territory in order to avoid crowds and massive infections in the midst of an aggressive third peak of the pandemic.

The important celebration is one of the most anticipated not only by Colombian families who want to pay tribute to their mothers, but also by merchants who seek to make a killing and beat the harsh economic situation that has afflicted them during the last year.

The initiative of the FENALCO merchants’ union was to propose that Mother’s Day be celebrated throughout the month of May, but this idea was quickly discarded since the sanitary and red alert measures in much of Colombia include restrictive measures for all type until the first days of June.

Mother’s Day postponed! They seek to avoid massive infections by COVID

Although it was planned that next Sunday, May 9, the traditional Mother’s Day would take place, the Ministry of Health stated verbatim that the party will be postponed to Sunday, May 30, “due to the high possibility of crowds that can be registered during this celebration.”

A statement from the entity made it clear that this is a really critical moment since we are already entering a third peak of infections by the Coronavirus, to which must be added the seriousness of the discovery in the country of the new strains (British and Brazilian) of the virus, which are more contagious and can be more complicated to treat in Intensive Care Units.

This being the case, the commemoration of this date will have to wait a bit and that reminds us that the previous year, the country was preparing to experience the first great wave of infections at this same time and at that time, citizens came out en masse to celebrate and this generated high and rapid contagion rates that put the health system in check.
