Look
Like its big brother the Pinscher, the Miniature Pinscher has a rather square body with a deep and broad chest that is about as high as it is long.
The little dog is carried by short, strong legs. The body has a long head that narrows towards the muzzle with large bat-like ears.
The rust-colored markings over the large, almond-shaped, dark brown eyes reinforce the impression that the Miniature Pinscher is always alert.
The little brat often wears the medium-length tail slightly curled up over the back.
Height Weight
The Miniature Pinscher doesn’t have its name for nothing – a quick look at the size and weight of the fur nose is enough.
Fully grown bitches reach a shoulder height of 25 to 28 centimeters and a weight of 3.5 to 5 kilograms.
Adult males are only slightly larger and heavier. The height at the stick is between 25 and 30 centimetres, the weight between 4 and 5 kilograms.
Coat, coat texture & coat colors
When it comes to colors, the Miniature Pinscher – or rather its breed – is based on these colors and color combinations:
- Chocolate/Tan
- chocolate/rust
- Black/Brown
- Black/Rust
- deer red
- Red
These colors, in turn, are found on a short, close-lying, dense, and shiny coat with a smooth hair texture.
History & Origin of the Miniature Pinscher
The Miniature Pinscher is a dog breed from Germany.
In its current form and as a separate breed from the Schnauzer, the Miniature Pinscher has existed since the late 19th century.
It began its career as a pied piper and attendant on carriages, but from the 1920s it became a popular accessory for elegant ladies.
Today, the Miniature Pinscher, recognized by the FCI in 1955, is a popular companion and family dog.
Nature & Character of the Miniature Pinscher
Equipped with a huge portion of charm and self-confidencea Miniature Pinscher will turn your life upside down.
His cheerful and mischievous nature and his exuberant and lively temperament also contribute to this.
The miniature pinscher is also considered to be very smart, clever and curious and loves to discover and learn new things.
The playful little bundle of energy is actually always cheerful and friendly.
But he can also mutate into a small barker if he feels like it or if he feels threatened.
With his extremely affectionate character, the sensitive dog hates it when he is left alone.
He doesn’t take long periods of your absence very well – and even training the puppy to leave it alone will only be able to change that to a limited extent.
Good to know
The Miniature Pinscher is a one-person dog. As a rule, he only builds up a close bond with one person, which can certainly lead to disagreements in families.
attitude & upbringing
What role do you think they play? Size, character and temperament of the Miniature Pinscher in its attitude and upbringing? We will tell you in the following section.
Upbringing
When training the miniature pinscher, you should keep a few things in mind – starting with the combination of charm + your own and stubborn head.
The miniature pinscher is a clever fellow who is well aware of the effect he has on his people.
So he will try again and again to throw you off course with big googly eyes and a lot of jokes and wrap them around his four little paws.
Ergo, you not only have to be particularly consistent in your upbringing, you also have to make sure that your announcements are clear and will always endure in the future.
Incidentally, it makes sense to complete barking training with the Miniature Pinscher puppies at an early stage. The breed is known for being very communicative.
attitude
If the Miniature Pinscher places high demands on its upbringing, it doesn’t matter in which four walls it is allowed to live.
Here he only has one expectation: that his person is always close by and that he is sufficiently busy with him.
Whether it’s going for walks, dog sports or work for the little gray cells – these important things make the Miniature Pinscher a lot of fun, especially together with you.
Please note that your fur nose will be used to other dogs early on, so that later neither barking nor dominance behavior are shown here.
Health & Care
Now let’s take a closer look at what’s going on with the points Health and care of the Miniature Pinscher in detail is waiting for you.
Life expectancy
A happy and healthy Miniature Pinscher will have a life expectancy of 13 to 15 years.
Health
Fortunately, no hereditary diseases or problems have arisen in the Miniature Pinscher.
But that always has to do with the seriousness of the breed. Unfortunately, so-called Miniature Teacup Pinschers are now also being bred.
These have a stick size of less than 25 centimeters and are considered torture breeds.
Stay away from these dog breeds that don’t actually grow – no matter how cute the dog may be!
Because the smaller the dog, the more susceptible it is to dangerous health problems that can negatively impact its life expectancy.
Even if your Miniature Pinscher is happily dashing around, you should not push these important things into the background:
- Preventive examinations by the veterinarian
- Comprehensive protection against endo- and ectoparasites
- Comprehensive vaccination protection and corresponding booster vaccinations
General Grooming & Grooming
The coat of the Miniature Pinscher is very easy to care for when it comes to brushing. It is sufficient if you reach for the curry comb or brush once a week.
You can easily remove loose hairs and dried-on dirt, and the blood circulation in the skin is stimulated.
Our tip
Would you like to give your Miniature Pinscher a bath too? Then please use a special dog shampoo that has the right pH value, among other things.
