Mariana Pajón won the third Olympic medal and broke down in tears

Mariana Pajón won her third Olympic medal and could not hide the tears after almost two years of disappointment and suffering due to an injury that almost left her out of Tokyo 2020.

The atomic ant drew its strength again. As for 9 years, the paisa got used to winning and incidentally, she got her fans used to giving their best and celebrating their triumphs. Mariana, who shut up a tweeter on some occasion, once again left mouths open and closed, showing that regardless of adversity, she continues to be the queen of BMX worldwide.

In the final test of the Olympic bike cross, the paisa added a new medal to her already endless number of titles, only this time it tasted different because although she did not manage to win the gold, she took a silver medal that is perhaps more important for the difficulty of reaching the Olympic podium to pick it up.

It was time for Pajón. For 44 seconds the hearts of Colombians stopped, although it seemed that everyone was pedaling with her. Mariana accelerated and left her rivals behind until she was in second place in the race, only crossing the finish line behind the young British woman, Bethany Shriever. Far from lamenting for not winning the gold for the third time in a row, the Colombian representative smiled at first and then she let out an inconsolable cry.

The reason for this crying is that just two years ago, Mariana suffered one of the most serious injuries that an athlete can have: the rupture of the anterior and collateral cruciate ligament.

He spent 9 months in recovery, learning to walk again and unable to ride his bike. A year later, the pandemic appeared, which is why he could not compete and arrived at the Tokyo tournament with a couple of tests carried out but without much rhythm.

Now, the Colombian celebrates having won her third consecutive medal (gold in London 2012 and Rio 2016), being the only national athlete to have achieved this feat.

It should be noted that in the men’s BMX event, the Colombian Carlos Ramírez won the bronze medal and also has two Olympics winning a medal because in the previous edition, he was third.
