Make your own nail polish remover!

There is nothing uglier than having your nail polish all worn out, that’s why we give you a solution for those moments of trouble. Create your own polish remover.

Combining vinegar and lemon juice we can have our own homemade and natural nail polish remover that will not damage your nails even if they are fragile.

Elaboration

Acetone is a common product in commercial nail polish removers. Vinegar is rich in acetic acid, a substance similar to acetone. The combination with lemon juice makes a product that easily dissolves nail polish.

To make the homemade nail polish remover, put a little white wine vinegar in a bowl. Add the same amount of lemon juice and stir until both products are perfectly mixed.

How to use

Dip a cotton ball in the mixture and apply to the nail by pressing. Hold for 10-20 seconds for the polish to soften, then drag the cotton to remove it from the nail. Removing polish with this homemade mix may take a little longer than with a commercial polish remover, especially if you’re trying to remove multiple layers of polish. Soaking your nails in hot water (as hot as you can get) for 15 minutes will help soften the polish and make it easier to remove.

Alternatives

If you don’t have vinegar or lemon and you need to make a homemade nail polish remover, you can rub alcohol on your nails with a cotton ball. Using alcohol is more natural and less aggressive than acetone but more so than the vinegar and lemon option. Alcohol kills bacteria, which can be beneficial if there is an infection in or around the nails. As with the vinegar and lemon, soaking your nails will help remove polish more easily.

Besides rubbing alcohol and vinegar and lemon, there are other homemade ways to remove old polish from your nails. Many perfumes contain acetone in their composition and other substances such as alcohol. So if you have perfume bottles in your house that you no longer use, you can recycle them as nail polish remover. If there is no other option you can put fresh nail polish on top of the old one, wait a bit and remove. The old enamel is mixed with the new and can be removed. The hardest remains can be removed by scraping lightly.
