Spiritual beliefs are nourished by the faith of followers that revolves around the teachings or premises of a leader and also by physical elements that have a special meaning, as is the case with the main religious symbols.
Historically, the most important religions house religious symbols as a way to represent an important thought or idea according to their beliefs. Among the best known we can mention:
Cross: Crosses are one of the most used symbols in history. In the religious aspect, they are associated with various beliefs and different cultures, as is the case with the Latin cross, a symbol of the passion of Christ and of Christianity in general.
Likewise, the cross responds to a strong symbology for the Orthodox, for whom it is represented as a cross with eight arms; since according to this religion Jesus Christ was not crucified by placing a nail on the union of the two feet, but on each one. On his side, there is also the papal or pontifical cross, made up of three crossbars that symbolize his authority as bishop of Rome, patriarch of the West and successor of the apostle Saint Peter.
Holy Grail: It is the cup where Jesus drank during the Last Supper and therefore an important symbol of Christianity, whose whereabouts have been for years, the subject of legends and myths. For many centuries, different cultures were considered bearers of the Holy Grail, however until now, only one is considered as such.
According to Spanish researchers Margarita Torres and Jose Miguel Ortega del Rio and authors of the book «The Holy Grail», the true chalice of Christ is found in the BAsylica of San Isidoro de León.
David’s star: It is one of the most representative symbols of Judaism and to which magical powers are attributed. It is also known as the Seal of Solomon or Star of David.
Crescent and star: The crescent moon with a star on top is a symbol of Islam and for this reason, several Islamic countries use it on their flags.
Jain Hand: This symbol that is graphically recognized as a hand with a wheel in the center represents the Jain religion in India and encompasses the main beliefs of the religion that are non-violence or «jiva daya» and compassion for living beings «a- himsa.”
Yin and yang: it is a symbol of the oriental beliefs that are developed in some places in China, Korea and Japan and that explains the duality that exists in the Universe: the yin represents the feminine, the earth, darkness and passivity, while the yang is the masculine principle, light, sky and activity.
omg: It is a sacred mantra of Hinduism and Buddhism that symbolizes the entire Universe. Although most people recognize it as a sound, it also has its graphic representation.
